Industrial dance (ID) is a dance form originated in the dark alternative clubs of Europe (primarily Germany) and the US throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. It is generally performed to technoid and trance-oriented music such as aggrotech, hardstyle and future pop. The main elements of industrial dance include various arm movements, footwork, kicks and spins. ID is often improvisational with emphasis on fast, complex arm movements combined with hip and footwork. Dances are generally practiced until they become intuitive, facilitating freestyle. Industrial dance is mainly seen in clubs and festivals of the dark culture.
